We produce pistons up to a finished weight of 70 tons for all well-known press manufacturers. The pistons are made both hollow and solid. They can be provided with longitudinal or transverse holes or machined according to other customer-specific requirements.
Our manufacturing program also includes so-called differential pistons. A special molding process makes it possible to cast the pistons in such a way that the piston head solidifies gray, whereas the shaft cast against mold is made of hard cast iron. This means that the “soft” head can easily be provided with grooves for piston rings.
Our hard cast iron in the ROLLS IRLE grades K 30 and K 40 has proven to be very good for the production of pistons. It has a surface hardness of 480 - 550 HV. While the “white” solidified, hard piston surface forms the wear-resistant part, the “gray” solidified core material is the strength carrier of the piston. For special purposes, we also manufacture pistons made of ductile iron or wrought steel. Depending on the design or customer requirements, stress relief annealing is carried out after casting.
