Our company’s history dates back to the 17th century. At that time, the Irle family made the extraction and processing of iron their profession and their calling. In 1820, the first hard-cast rollers were produced using mold casting, and in 1884, the first rollers for paper and cardboard production were manufactured. IRLE also produced the world’s first centrifugal-cast rollers based on its own patent.
Experience, technological expertise, and ongoing research in the manufacture of cast products have made us an innovative technology leader. A key factor in this is our close collaboration with machine manufacturers and plant operators, which enables us to continuously improve our rolls.
We find solutions and develop products that benefit our customers.
We manufacture our products in accordance with the latest metallurgical and machining standards under the supervision of experienced engineers to ensure we consistently deliver the highest quality.
We respond to our customers' needs, give them the attention they deserve, and continue to support them long after a project is completed.
Environmentally conscious practices and the responsible and sustainable use of resources are key elements of our integrated management system.
We are kind and loyal. We care deeply about our employees; after all, they share responsibility for every single success.
Our customers and partners can count on us. We keep our word.
We work with our customers right from the design phase of new facilities and provide effective support for the retrofitting of existing facilities.
In addition to preparing drawings and order documentation, the following areas are also covered:
Technical Consulting and Design Support:
We aim to continuously improve our products and services in order to build customer loyalty and operate profitably.
The manufacturing process for cast products is subject to a variety of influencing factors, the interaction of which determines the quality. Quality assurance for the production process includes continuous material inspections through spectrometer analysis of chemical compositions, combustion analysis of carbon and sulfur, and gas analysis of oxygen and nitrogen content, as well as testing of mechanical properties and metallography to verify the correct formation of the microstructure of our defined materials.
In addition to our employees’ high level of technical expertise, our comprehensive understanding of our customers’ material requirements enables us to develop new and improved products tailored to their needs and to provide application-specific material recommendations.
The melting plant consists of eight induction furnaces with capacities ranging from 3 to 30 metric tons, enabling the production of ingots weighing up to 130 metric tons. The five large furnaces are installed in a row on a shared furnace platform. They are operated and continuously monitored via a central, fully electronic control station. Modern computer-aided systems are used to calculate the required alloys and grades. The reference alloy is transmitted to the furnaces as a target specification.
The casting process takes place in casting pits for statically cast rolls, in centrifugal casting machines for centrifugally cast rolls and pipes, and in casting boxes for mold-cast parts.
The foundry is also responsible for annealing the workpieces to relieve material stresses and perform thermal heat treatment. Due to the nature of its processes, the foundry operates in three shifts.
In our twelve machining shops, the manufacturing processes—turning, milling, honing, drilling, grinding, hardening, finishing, and dynamic balancing—are efficiently organized according to the specific product and its dimensions.
Specialized departments handle liquid-heated thermal rolls. Here, special processes are used to produce roll geometries at operating temperatures, and inductive hardening, hot grinding, and hot balancing are performed to ensure optimal roll running characteristics.
Speziell für Kunststoff-Kalanderwalzen werden Oberflächenrauhigkeiten von <0,01 µm und Rundlaufgenauigkeiten von < 1 µm erreicht.
Standard quality assurance tasks include, among other things, continuous chemical analyses during the smelting processes and ongoing quality controls at each stage of production.
The following are performed by the laboratory:
Scope of Application
Development, design, and manufacture of rollers and rings for the steel, non-ferrous metals, paper, rubber, plastics, and food industries; manufacture of pistons for presses and wear-resistant die-castings.
